Turn on the app's nearby hazard alerts, see what they cover and how often they check, and why an alert can arrive late.
For: Everyone
The app can warn you on your phone when a hazard is reported near you, or when the weather forecast suggests one is coming. Alerts are off until you turn them on, and no account is needed.
If you tapped Not now, turn them on later:
To stop alerts, turn the same switch off.
| Kind | When |
|---|---|
| A reported hazard | A report within 10 km of you that a reviewer has approved. It may include the reporter's description and photo. |
| A forecast | You are inside a forecast area at Warning level or above. A lower Watch level never interrupts you. |
Every alert says whether it is a report or a forecast. A forecast is not a confirmed report and not an official warning. You get at most three alerts at a time, reports first.
The app checks about every 15 minutes, even when it is closed. Your phone decides the exact timing, so an alert can be late. On some phones, battery saving stops the checks. If alerts stop arriving, allow Nigraan to run in the background in your phone's battery settings.
Your location stays on your phone. It is never uploaded. The background check uses the last place the app saw you while it was open; it does not track you in the background.
This is not an emergency warning system. Always follow PMD and NDMA for official warnings, and call Rescue 1122 if someone is in danger.
