Get started with the Nigraan app

Find your way around the app's tabs and menu, switch between English and Urdu, and see which permissions it asks for and why.

The Nigraan app puts the live hazard map, the hazard guides and Pakistan's emergency numbers on your phone. You can use most of it without an account, and much of it works with no signal.

Install the app

The app is for Android phones. It is being prepared for Google Play and is not listed there yet. An iPhone version is not available yet.

Find your way around

The app opens on the Map. The tabs along the bottom are:

Tab	What it has
Map	Hazard reports, relief points, official figures and the weather forecast, on one map.
Prepare	Know your hazards: a guide to each hazard, before, during and after.
Emergency	Emergency numbers, Make a plan, Build an emergency kit, and what to do for each hazard.
Data	Staff accounts only: every record, by province, city and place.

The bar at the top of every screen has:

• the language switch, EN and اردو;
• a red 1122 button, which opens your phone's dialler with Rescue 1122;
• a bell for your notifications, once you are signed in;
• the Menu button (three lines).

The Menu holds My reports, My badge, Bulk upload dataset, About & settings, and Sign in or Sign out. Staff accounts also see their role tools there.

Switch between English and Urdu

1. Tap EN or اردو in the top bar.

On a narrow phone there is a single button, showing the language you can switch to.

• The whole app changes language, numbers included. The layout stays left to right in both languages.
• What people typed, such as a report's description, stays as they wrote it.
• The Urdu hazard guides are machine-translated and are still being checked. Always follow NDMA, your PDMA and Rescue 1122.

The permissions it asks for

The app asks for a permission only when you use something that needs it. If you say no, everything else keeps working, and you can change your mind later in your phone's Settings.

Microphone	When you tap Record a voice memo	To record a short voice note.
Notifications	When you turn on nearby hazard alerts	To warn you about hazards near you.

Choose from gallery uses Android's own photo picker, so it needs no permission.

Your location stays on your phone. It is never uploaded, and never added to a report unless you choose to add it.

The first time you open it

A sheet asks Get warned about hazards near you. Tap Allow location to turn on nearby hazard alerts, or Not now to skip. You can turn them on later in About & settings. See Get alerts about hazards near you.

Is someone in danger right now? Tap the red 1122 button and call Rescue 1122 first. Nigraan is not an emergency service.
