Run the admin console

Every tab an administrator sees, what each one is for, and the powers only an administrator has.

For: Administrators

An Administrator sees everything the other staff roles see, plus the tools to manage people. Use the role with care: it can publish, refuse and permanently delete any report.

Open the console

Sign in, then click Admin console in the top bar. Back to site returns you to the public pages. The bell in the console header shows notifications, including badge requests.

The six tabs

Powers only an administrator has

• Reverse a decision. On the Data page, under Review stage, an administrator can deny a report that was approved, or approve one that was denied. Validators and institutional users can only decide reports that are still undecided. See Use the Data page.
• Change anyone's role, except your own. You cannot change your own role, so you cannot lock yourself out of the console.
• Give or remove any badge directly, whatever a person's number of camps.
• Remove an account completely. This deletes the person's login and profile, and cannot be undone.

Good practice

• Keep the number of administrators small. Give people the least powerful role that lets them do their job, e.g. Validator for someone who only reviews.
• Before you reverse a decision or delete a record, check whether someone else made it, and why.
• Creating an administrator account needs a secret key from an existing administrator. Share it only in person or over a private channel, and never post it in a group chat.
